Transgender, at war and in love

Logan and Laila are in love and in the military. This short documentary shares the challenges of a transgender military couple, who are banned from serving openly.

When the New York Times Editorial Board came out in support of open trans service, they needed to put a humanizing face to the issue. Our team partnered with Director Fiona Dawson to put Logan and Laila’s story at the forefront of the effort.

The afternoon the NYTimes Op-ed came out, the Air Force elevated the decision to discharge transgender airmen to the highest level, protecting them from discharge until the policy was changed in July 2016. Because of the video, Logan and Laila were invited to the White House to meet President Obama. News organizations across the country picked up Logan and Laila’s story, including Politico, Buzzfeed, The Boston Globe, Yahoo, MSN, Good Magazine, and The Advocate. Last Week Tonight with John Oliver featured the Op-Doc in a marquee segment, which called for equal rights and treatment of transgender citizens.
